What is it about having jobs and having CC?

There’s a funny thing happened to me when I was walking alone around the mall this Sunday morning. I intentionally wake up and going early to avoid mass of people who usually dominates mall in weekend. I was walking in luxury, enjoying those space when there’s someone stop me. He is a sales from some program, he said all the things about the program and I let him, just because I had all the time in the world. He was bringing up about credit card and I let him assumed that I have one. Blablabla to the blablabla..

Then his explanation come to where he explained about donation per month using our credit card, and I cut his explanation by saying, “I’m sorry but I don’t have a credit card.” He looked confused, he looked at data about my birthdate, which he asked before, and asked, “your age is about 26, am I right?”

“yes, yes I am”

“but.. you don’t have credit card? Are you working?” He really looks confused.

“yes, yes I am.”

“oh. Kay then, thank you for your time. Enjoy your day.” Finally he closed that conversation confusedly, and leave me alone.

It made me thinking, is that so wrong if I am a worker, twenty something and don’t have a credit card? Because judging from his look, it’s clearly he’s being confused about me don’t have credit card. Do you have one?

Personally, I’ve been raised to not have credit card. My dad have some, of course, but he always told me not to count on credit card. He told me, that paying bills and paying credit card bills are totally different thing. When you’re paying your bills, that necessity. That’s something you have to pay, to support your life. But when you’re paying your credit card bills, that your lifestyle in debt. That’s your clothes, bags, drinks, shoes, and everything else you bought when you want them and you don’t have money for it.

Of course it’s not generalization. You can have credit card for emergency, like when you’re sick or for medication or anything else, but do you really think that you need one, right now? What’s gonna happen then? I know that if I have one, I’m probably going crazy every time when there’s end season's sale. I’m still young, and yes, I 'm lucky that i have job, and I’m lucky that both my parents are still alive and working. So, I don’t feel the necessity to have credit card right now. Maybe later, but for now? I will rather manage my money old school way. How about you guys?
