this year, Indonesia is hosting Asian games 2018. Indonesia's government make some changing and renovation here and there for Asian games. i wasn't think too much about it because i don't like sports. until Asian games really happening and i watched opening ceremony Asian games 2018.
It was awesome.
i never see myself as someone who has huge nationality for my country. its very often, I find myself cursed or criticizes the way my people behave. moreover, my country situation is.. very bad. well, i don't know much about it honestly, or pay much attention to it, but it feels like it. it look like it too, with media show all those things. That's why i was pessimistic at first. Then, i saw opening ceremony, had goosebumps, and i shed a tear.
My country, Indonesia, have so many cultures. so many varieties kinds of foods, arts, dances, and in opening ceremony, it shows. the ceremony shows how variety we are. there are so many cultures in Indonesia and we proud of that. we respect each other, we tolerate and understanding each other differences, and i never feel proud and one as Indonesian before. Asian games opening ceremony remind me the beauty of Indonesia and we as Indonesians, are one.
for you who haven't see the opening ceremony, i suggests you watch it now. you can find it in Asian games official website, or just google it. in order of Asian games, there are also dancing fountain and laser lightning in monument national (monas), in central Jakarta. there are also Asian festival at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), where Asian games being held. i went to monas and watched the dancing fountain and laser light, but nothing beats the feelings when i was at GBK, watched some competition, and strolling around GBK. i feel like I'm proud Indonesian.

and this phenomenal events, is being held here, in Indonesia. at a place near my house, it takes 20 minutes by car. it held at the place that is so easy for me to reach.
breath, then let it sink in.
for a moment, Asian games made us feel one, as Indonesia. it's almost a month after Asian games, and people still talk about it. when i re-watched the closing, I feel those feeling all over again. apparently, it's not just me who are feeling that way. some of my friends in creative industry busy make some art to show appreciation to them behind Asian games, athletes, and to people. government shows their appreciation, many of us hope that this unity is ever lasting.
As I watched Asian games closing ceremony, I feel a ping of sadness. there are some mixed feelings inside me. Asian games united us in some ways I never thought of. I do love Indonesia and proud to be it's citizen. I hope this event can make many of us realize that too.
